Director of Product Design

About the role

The Director of Product Design will lead the multi-year vision for Shipt's design platform, shaping how the platform scales across Customer, Shopper, and Partner experiences. They will influence cross-functional leadership in Engineering, Product, and Research, and lead a team of systems designers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the vision and strategy for Shipt's design platform, ensuring it scales across different product surfaces.
• Shape the platform to support rapid development and consistent user experience across multiple teams.
• Collaborate with Engineering to establish shared component contracts and pipeline ownership.
• Define metrics and KPIs for the design platform and link them to business outcomes.
• Manage a team of systems designers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Communicate the value of the design platform to stakeholders and drive adoption across the organization.

Requirements

• 5+ years of product design leadership, specifically in scaling and maintaining multi-platform design systems.
• Experience with front-end architecture, including familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and package managers.
• Proven ability to develop and enforce technical governance frameworks and schema definitions.
• Direct experience managing product design teams, including leading, mentoring, and scaling them.
• Strong systems thinking, data schema architecture, workflow/IA design, and visual infrastructure design skills.
• Executive-level communication skills to articulate the value of the design platform and its impact on business outcomes.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with AI tools and technologies, particularly those relevant to design and product development.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of designers.
• Experience with hybrid work arrangements and remote management.

Pay

Pay Range: $188,000 - $230,000
