About the role

Join Recidiviz as a Director of Product to lead and develop a high-performing team of product managers. You’ll set the strategic direction, build the systems to support the team, and ensure the team stays aligned with the broader mission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing PM team, managing and mentoring experienced PMs and emerging leaders.
  • Build systems that give the team clarity and stability, including career ladders, performance frameworks, and onboarding processes.
  • Build cross-functional trust with engineering, design, data science, and policy teams, and coach PMs to do the same.
  • Set the strategic context for the PM team, defining clear directions, priorities, and the importance of their work.
  • Maintain a pipeline that moves fast without sacrificing quality, ensuring a steady flow of talent.
  • Ensure new hires contribute meaningfully within their first month, fostering a culture of productivity.
  • Ensure everyone at Recidiviz can articulate the product's direction and why it matters, enhancing strategic clarity throughout the organization.
  • Support the growth and wellbeing of the team members, measuring success by their professional development and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in product management, with at least 5 years managing a team; experience leading both senior ICs and emerging leaders.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship skills, earning trust quickly, especially with people who have strong opinions and high standards.
  • Experience coaching PMs toward management readiness, developing future managers, not just individual contributors.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, creating clarity and momentum where little exists.
  • Proven ability to build people systems from scratch, including career ladders, performance frameworks, and onboarding programs.
  • Experience running recruiting at scale, including pipeline building, interview design, and closing candidates in a competitive market.
  • Strong strategic instincts, identifying what's misaligned and helping teams make better decisions with less friction.
  • A builder's mindset paired with strategic rigor, seeing gaps and closing them to leave things better than they found them.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, about one trip per quarter.
  • Experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments, building trust with end users, administrative buyers, and institutional partners.
  • Experience working in or closely with mission-driven, nonprofit, or public sector organizations.
  • Personal or professional experience working with the criminal justice system.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup where the playbook was still being written.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted product development and the unique team dynamics it creates.
  • A track record of elevating strong ICs into more strategic, senior thinkers, not just promoting people.
