Responsibilities

  • Direct contract strategy and lead negotiations for a broad portfolio of supplier agreements, including clinical services, manufacturing support, laboratory services, data solutions, consulting engagements, and master service arrangements.
  • Lead end-to-end contract negotiation strategy and execution for a wide range of procurement agreements, including:
    • CRO and clinical service agreements
    • CMO and manufacturing agreements
    • Laboratory, data, and technology service contracts
    • Consulting, professional services, and master service agreements (MSAs/SOWs)
  • Work closely with finance and legal partners to shape contract terms that align commercial goals with compliance requirements and appropriate risk protection.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on pricing approaches, payment terms, service expectations, and contractual tradeoffs to support sound business decisions.
  • Negotiate favorable commercial outcomes that improve value, preserve flexibility, and strengthen performance while maintaining productive supplier relationships.
  • Enhance procurement and contracting practices by developing practical templates, guidance materials, negotiation playbooks, and scalable procedures for a growing organization.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle activities such as renewals, amendments, scope changes, issue resolution, and escalation management.
  • Evaluate the supplier portfolio to uncover savings opportunities, reduce exposure, and improve operational efficiency across purchasing activities.
  • Contribute strategic leadership through vendor governance, mentorship, and longer-range planning for procurement operations and sourcing priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is beneficial.
  • At least 10 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or contract negotiation, preferably within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences.
  • Strong track record of negotiating complex, high-value agreements with contract research organizations, contract manufacturers, laboratories, and similar service providers.
  • Knowledge of contracting models commonly used in biotech, including commercial terms, pricing frameworks, and risk-sharing structures.
  • Ability to build credibility with senior cross-functional stakeholders and influence decisions effectively.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, rapidly evolving environment with limited infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting clinical-stage programs and helping develop procurement processes in a growing company is preferred.
