About the role
We are seeking a Director of Procurement to lead our procurement function from the ground up. This role requires a strong background in procurement strategy, policy, and execution. You will work closely with finance, legal, security, and compliance teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategy and policies
- Build and own the procurement function, including intake, approvals, vendor selection, controls, and spend governance
- Evaluate and manage vendor relationships across various categories (SaaS, AI, cloud, professional services)
- Optimize procurement tooling and operational infrastructure
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives and negotiate high-stakes agreements
- Advise department leaders on vendor decisions and build cross-functional partnerships
- Hire and develop a procurement team to support Headway’s growth
Requirements
- Experience building and leading procurement functions
- Deep expertise in SaaS, AI, and professional services
- Strong analytical skills and ability to drive cost optimization
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to influence category spend without direct authority
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of procurement experience, preferably in a high-growth tech company
- Proven track record of successful vendor negotiations and cost optimization
- Experience with procurement tools and platforms
