Director of Primary Care Faculty Practice

About the Role
The Director of Primary Care Faculty Practices provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for adult and pediatric primary care health services across the Colorado Front Range. This role is responsible for directing a team of clinical practice leads, fostering excellence in clinical care, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals and community needs. The Director works in close partnership with the Office of Clinical and Community Affairs, contributing to programmatic and operational initiatives that advance clinical excellence and community engagement.
This position reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs and includes a balanced workload of 1.0 FTE, comprised of:
- 0.5 FTE dedicated to administrative leadership and oversight of the practice lead team
- 0.5 FTE allocated to clinical practice in adult primary care as an FNP at the Community Health Clinic at Anschutz Medical Campus
Responsibilities
- Serves as a strategic liaison between clinic staff and the Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Affairs to ensure alignment of clinical operations and patient care goals.
- Partners with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and apply key performance indicators, driving innovative, cost-effective improvements in clinical practice.
- Contributes to programmatic development by formulating and implementing evidence-based health policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Ensures adherence to safety, environmental, and infection control standards across clinical sites.
- Leads continuous quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical excellence, operational efficiency, financial stewardship, and patient safety.
- Coordinates and facilitates educational opportunities to support regulatory compliance and clinical competency.
- Oversees clinical workflows and engages teams in performance improvement activities to enhance care delivery.
- Supports and manages the clinical peer review process and annual evaluations in collaboration with CU Nursing teams.
- Provides individualized mentorship and support to clinical practice faculty.
- Ensures compliance with University, College, and professional standards, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in faculty and staff recruitment processes to support clinical growth and excellence.
- Represents the clinic in leadership and governance meetings, advocating for operational and strategic priorities.
- Acts as a liaison between the clinic and patients, collaborating providers, community stakeholders, and external partners.
- Facilitates monthly faculty meetings to promote communication, collaboration, and shared decision-making.
- Collaborates with the Medical Staff Office, College of Nursing Credentialing Committee, and CU Credentialing Committee to ensure provider credentialing and privileging.
- Serves as a professional role model and thought leader, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Manages clinical resources responsibly, aligning with institutional and practice-level fiscal goals.
- Demonstrates expertise in patient documentation, compliance, and billing practices to support operational integrity.
- Actively contributes to the advancement of the organization’s strategic plan and mission.
Clinical Duties
- Serves as primary care provider within a team-based care model.
- Performs accurate physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, follow-up, and consultation.
- Supervises and/or coordinates the activities of patient care.
- Participates in after-hours call.
- Obtains patient history and develops comprehensive plan of care.
- Provides health education to patients, students, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups.
- Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
- Functions as a clinical preceptor for health professions students.
- Identifies deviations from normal and consults as needed.
- Completes necessary documentation within established timeframes.
- Ensures strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
- Adept at Electronic Health Record (EHR) use and EHR troubleshooting, improvement processes, and downtime procedures.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Current RN, APN, and RxN licensures in good standing (any State). Colorado licensures required by date of hire.
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-scope primary care experience as an FNP.
- Four (4) years of progressive leadership experience in the primary care practice setting, including supervisory experience and experience with organizational finances.
- Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RN, APN, RxN licenses by date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to obtain current DEA license within 90 days of hire.
- Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to obtain valid Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to complete CAQH and all credentialing requirements prior to date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to actively participate in health plan contracts.
- Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
- Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
- Must work standard clinic hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) with rotating on-call coverage.

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $103,750–$115,278/year. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. In addition to the annual salary, an annual administrative stipend of $10,000/year will also be offered.
