Director of Power Market Intelligence
About the role
We are looking for a full-time Director, Power Market Intelligence, to lead Wood Mackenzie's power market advisory team in North America. The team delivers daily fundamental and price forecasts across all seven ISOs (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, NYISO, and ISO-NE), supporting 100+ daily customer interactions with asset owners, traders, and energy retailers who make live market decisions every day.
You will drive transformation across this team, raising the bar on output, driving automation that creates capacity for tailored customer advisory, and building greater trust and expertise among customer decision makers. This role reports to Wood Mackenzie Trading Analytics leadership.
Core Responsibilities
Own the quality of analyst output across the seven American ISOs, including accuracy of forecasts, depth of commentary, and responsiveness to customer questions and feedback.
Be a trusted, approachable point of contact for key North American accounts, building relationships grounded in genuine market understanding and responsiveness.
Work closely with Sales and Customer Success to understand what customers value most, and to ensure product and service improvements reflect those needs.
Foster a personalized service culture where analysts know their accounts well, share insight proactively, and deliver analysis tailored to the specific context of each customer's portfolio, not just reports.
Shape the team to deliver better customer outcomes, owning the team evolution from a centralized, manually intensive operation to a customized advisory model, shaping the end state, sequencing the change, and driving progress.
Define the automation agenda for the MI team, prioritizing workflows and partnering with analysts, data scientists, and engineering to actualize those investments.
Work with leadership to align our structure and talent strategy, then deliver the plan to improve our coverage of and responsiveness to customer needs.
Develop and care for your people, recruiting, developing, and retaining senior market analysts across North America with a genuine commitment to understanding each person's goals and helping them build a career at Wood Mackenzie.
Revise the career framework for the market intelligence team, considering customer needs for market specialism, analytical rigor, and relationship management, with consistent milestones, regular feedback, and genuine flexibility across different career tracks.
Collaborate with HR on compensation, benchmarking and retention, helping to create conditions where people genuinely want to stay and grow.
Contribute to strategy and direction, maintaining a sharp view on customer needs, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape, and translating that into a clear plan for evolving Wood Mackenzie's analytical capabilities to strengthen customer relationships.
Contribute to the Trading Analytics product strategy and roadmap, connecting the team's day-to-day market experience to longer-horizon product improvements.
Travel across our customer footprint to work in-person with analyst teams and customers, staying genuinely connected to the people and markets the team serves.
Own the team’s contributions to customer retention and satisfaction, working with product, sales, and customer success, and driving accountability across the team for high standards of service.
About You
We are looking for someone who is deeply knowledgeable about power markets with strong leadership instincts to build a team that others want to be a part of. What matters is that you set a high standard, build trust through active engagement and knowledge, and care about creating an environment where everyone on the team can do their best work.
Experience And Qualifications:
At least seven years of experience in North American power market analysis, forecasting, or trading, with expertise across multiple ISOs, including direct exposure to desk environments where analysts informed live market decisions.
A thorough understanding of day-ahead, real-time, and congestion dynamics is also a must-have.
About four years of experience leading a team of three or more analysts or researchers, with a record of helping people grow, not just delivering results through them.
Experience collaborating directly with customers, including traders, asset owners, and retailers, as a trusted advisory voice, building relationships that go beyond report delivery.
Familiarity with technology and tooling decisions, including forecasting methodologies and modeling platforms.
The ability to engage in detail with product and engineering teams on automation priorities, understanding what to systematize, and why.
Experience building or rebuilding analyst teams in fast-paced environments, including defining capability frameworks, talent benchmarking and management, and creating retention strategies.
Skills And Attributes
A thorough understanding of power market price forecasting and where Wood Mackenzie's approach creates the most value for the customers who rely on it daily.
The ability to connect research quality to customer outcomes, understanding how analyst work translates into satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term partnerships.
Effective communication and listening skills, with the ability to translate complex market dynamics clearly for customers, colleagues, and leadership, and to hear what is not being said as well as what is.
Comfortable working through uncertainty and change collaboratively, bringing people with you rather than directing from the front.
Genuinely committed to equity and inclusion, actively working to create a team where people of all backgrounds feel they belong, are valued, and can see a future at Wood Mackenzie.
