Director of Planning and Development

About the role

The Director of Planning and Development is responsible for the leadership and management of planning, engineering, and zoning activities within the City of Bee Cave. This position oversees the comprehensive plan, land development regulations, and other related policies to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the community.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development of the comprehensive plan and land development regulations to guide the growth and development of the community.
• Manage the review and approval process for development applications, ensuring compliance with zoning laws and regulations.
• Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including developers, community members, and regulatory agencies to facilitate informed decision-making.
• Lead the preparation and presentation of planning reports and studies to the City Council and other relevant bodies.
• Ensure adherence to environmental protection and conservation standards in all planning and development projects.
• Collaborate with other departments to integrate planning goals with broader city initiatives and projects.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning, preferably in a similar-sized community.
• Experience in managing and leading a team of planners and engineers.
• Knowledge of state and local land use laws and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to manage complex planning projects and coordinate with various stakeholders.
• Experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences.
• Strong understanding of sustainable development practices and their implementation.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with GIS software and land use modeling tools.
• Knowledge of environmental impact assessment processes.

Pay

Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually.

Schedule

Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
