About the role
The Director of Planning and Development will oversee a wide range of planning activities, including research and analysis, to support the growth and preservation of Johnstown's unique identity.
Responsibilities
- Responds to public inquiries about ordinances and subdivision regulations.
- Reviews development plans, site plans, and zoning certificates for compliance with City codes, municipal regulations, and established policies.
- Works with customers to resolve conflicts in plans and ensure adherence to policies, standards, and codes.
- Attends meetings and provides recommendations, correspondence, presentations, and reports on planning and development issues to guide board and commission decisions and community development.
- Conducts assigned planning projects focusing on land use, population, structures, economic activity, housing, transportation, and environmental factors.
- Compiles files as needed to fulfill records requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning or a related field.
- Five years of experience in public sector planning and zoning.
Qualifications
While a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience are required, candidates with additional qualifications such as advanced degrees or specialized certifications may be considered favorably.
Skills
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
