Director of Payments
Lumion is the AI-first operating system for trade and technical schools, running the full student journey from first inquiry to graduation. The Payments function is a critical part of this journey, ensuring that students can afford to complete their education.
About the role
You own payments as a business: the P&L, the volume schools put through the platform, the servicing and collections operation, the reporting everyone else relies on, and the portal students pay through. You report to the CEO and carry the number.
Responsibilities
- Own the P&L, revenue, margin, and unit economics underneath them, and the plan to grow the book.
- Get more volume onto the platform: more schools writing plans, existing schools running more enrollments through payments, fewer accounts sitting dormant.
- Run the in-house, US-based operation: the team, the workflows, and the borrower experience when an account slips.
- Hold 91.6% collection rate as the floor, moving it up while keeping collections clean and audit-ready.
- Own the Payments Product, improving and maintaining the student portal, the school portal, and any tools the servicing team uses to drive collections and servicing.
- Work with product and engineering to cut friction and lift conversion on the student portal.
- Inherit a team of seven: a Director of Compliance, a Servicing Lead, and five servicers. Compliance is already owned and staffed under the Director of Compliance, including 48-state licenses, exam readiness, and FDCPA.
Requirements
You have worked in consumer finance, payments, loan servicing, collections, or fintech operations. You are hands-on, building the systems and fixing the broken processes yourself. You think in cohort curves and collection performance, knowing your unit economics cold. You have led servicing, collections, or operations teams and gotten more out of them than they expected to give. You have product sense, looking at a portal or a workflow and knowing what to fix, in what order, and why.
Qualifications
You must be authorized to work in the US. The role is in-office in South Jordan, Utah.
Skills
Consumer finance, payments, loan servicing, collections, or fintech operations experience. Hands-on leadership in servicing, collections, or operations. Product sense and ability to improve and maintain systems and workflows.
Benefits

Other benefits include 401(k), unlimited PTO, and health, dental, and vision through a QSEHRA reimbursement, plus monthly tech and wellness stipends.
Pay
Real numbers in the first conversation, not at the offer. The base is set for a senior operator.
