Director of Operations, Packaging

About the role
This role ensures that all sites adhere to company standards, achieve financial and operational goals, and deliver exceptional service. The Director of Operations acts as a strategic leader, driving efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage operations for multiple sites within the region, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
- Provide strategic leadership that enhances productivity, reduces costs, and improves customer satisfaction
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support regional initiatives and resolve operation challenges
- Provide positive and inspirational leadership to all distribution center associates
- Establish and maintain an effective staffing plan
- Develop, train, and motivate team leaders; evaluate performance, lead with courage, combat turnover, and maintain morale and culture
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment to protect employee well-being and minimize risk and loss to the company
- Manage expenses to an operational budget and review cost of goods to maximize profitability
- Ensure OSHA and DOT compliance for all employees, equipment and vehicles
- Operate Material Handling Equipment and drive company Delivery Vehicles as necessary
- Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in warehouse or distribution operations, with at least 2 years in a management role
- High school diploma or equivalent; College degree a plus
- Inspirational leadership skills to build and retain a high-performing team
- Strong knowledge of ERP and WMS systems with ability to learn and train others on new systems
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT and all safety compliance standards
- Experience in fleet management
- Lean Six Sigma or distribution-related certifications highly preferred
- Clear understanding of Profit & Loss principles and budgeting
- Intermediate experience with MS Office
- Ability to be flexible and work extended or adjusted hours to ensure presence and support across all shifts, or to address urgent customer needs
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving history
- Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs and walk, climb, kneel, stoop, and balance frequently
