Director of Operations
About the role
The Director of Operations is a seasoned operational leader who plays a critical role in supporting and extending the effectiveness of the VPO or Senior VPO. Building on a strong foundation of operational execution, this role operates with increased autonomy, broader scope, and a strategic lens. The DOO partners closely with the VPO and clinical leadership to ensure the successful delivery of program goals, high-quality care, and strong financial performance. While continuing to support day-to-day operational needs, the DOO is expected to anticipate challenges, drive solutions, and contribute to decision-making that impacts client satisfaction and organizational outcomes. The DOO helps foster and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring alignment with contractual expectations and organizational standards.
Responsibilities

- Work with operational and clinical leadership to support assigned contracts, ensuring compliance with facility and TeamHealth requirements; may serve as the primary client liaison and coordinate value-added services to meet evolving client needs.
- Action planning and follow-up on client surveys, Web-of-Influence surveys, Press Ganey, and TeamHealth engagement surveys.
- Adhere to Partners in Performance philosophy and ensure standards of documentation are maintained in Client Retention Management (CRM) database as directed by operational leader.
- Research and provide data requests to VPO and SVPs for monthly and quarterly operational reviews.
- Utilize internal tools for daily productivity management goals, including monitoring and analyzing productivity metrics within contract and budget parameters to identify risks or opportunities within book of business.
- Work to achieve and support client and TeamHealth operating metric goals.
- Contribute to the development of annual budgets and ongoing management of contracts to meet budget, including management of premium labor, clinician expenses, and payment collections.
- May participate in regional Monthly Operating Reviews (MOR) as directed by senior management.
- Monitor and manage financial performance by reviewing various financial reports and taking action where appropriate to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Manage compensation requests and coordinate market analysis with relevant departments and leaders.
- Coordinate client start-ups, transitions, and terminations per TeamHealth protocols.
- Anticipate and resolve urgent operational challenges (e.g., staffing, performance, compliance) with minimal disruption to clinical services.
- Identify process improvement opportunities, make recommendations, and collaborate with leaders and staff of operational service centers to achieve optimal contract performance. These departments can include: Recruiting, Scheduling, Human Resources, Credentialing, Payroll, Risk Management, Documentation Education, Provider Enrollment, PSO, Compliance, Finance, and Legal.
- Assist with clinician compliance matters, such as education, documentation, expirables, I-9s, and recoupments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may include supervisory responsibilities, oversight of direct reports and support staff, as determined by operational leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field required.
- Minimum of 1-3 years experience in practice, provider, or clinical management, including process improvement preferred.
- Technical proficiency to include Microsoft Office Products, Video Conferencing, and Database Management.
