Director of Operations
About the role
This position will be responsible for providing overall leadership of Phoenix Construction Operations including General Contracting (GC) and Construction Management (CM), reporting to the Vice President/Director of Operations (VP/DOO).
Responsibilities
- Oversees projects and project teams to assure customer satisfaction, timely completion and meaningful profitability.
- Directs and organizes meetings as may be required by the VP/DOO.
- Interfaces with other Kraus-Anderson (KA) Construction offices, Realty, Development, Insurance, and KA Corporate Departments.
- Interfaces with Accounting Department and Field Operations.
- Oversees and is involved in the staffing of Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and the Marketing Department.
- Entertains existing, new and potential customers, and develops relationships and expanded networks.
- Attends meetings and presents information to individuals, committees, and boards as necessary to sell the capabilities of KA.
- Troubleshoots and assists Business Development and Project Mangers.
- Reviews contracts and financing, as well as monitors collections/billing.
- Maintains relationships with past and present customers to ensure their continued satisfaction with past and current projects and works to build a continuing positive image.
- Establishes a growing network of business associates and sells the virtues of KA.
- Assembles proposal teams, strategies of proposal, proposal reviews and fee calculations.
- Maintains an ongoing list of subcontractors that are competent, reliable and meet KACC’s desired criteria.
- Maintains memberships or affiliations in civic or professional organizations that may support personal growth and/or relationship development.
- Coordinates strategic planning and goal setting for the Office.
- Participates in formulating and administering company policies to help in retaining employees.
- Provides guidance and timely feedback to team members to assure continuing individual improvement and project success.
- Mentors managers and recommends development activities to enhance their growth and capabilities.
- Manages the performance of team members and provides formal performance feedback sessions on a semiannual basis.
- Regularly reviews project activities, costs, operations, monthly project financial forecast data and income statements to determine team or division progress toward stated goals and objectives.
- Regularly confers with VP/DOO and other administrative personnel as necessary, to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current project status and conditions.
- Prepares annual revenue, project profit and labor contra projections for office and provides monthly monitoring of overall costs to assure profitability.
- Safeguards Senior Management is informed on all matters of relative importance to Kraus-Anderson.
- Participates in corporate initiatives and strategic planning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 10+ years of Construction Management experience.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, 365).
- Proficient in Construction Project Budgeting, Estimating & Scheduling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Four year degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related degree.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to think innovatively and strategically.
- Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals.
- Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position.
- Working knowledge of Viewpoint and Cosential software.
- Working knowledge and experience in the local market.
Other
- Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and ability to adhere to the KA Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Travel.
