Addington Place at College Harbor is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department at a respected skilled nursing facility in the Saint Petersburg, Florida area.
About the role
The Director of Nursing, RN is responsible for the leadership, planning, organization, supervision, and management of all nursing services in the facility, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and promoting high-quality, resident-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and oversee all nursing services and clinical operations for the facility, ensuring care standards are met or exceeded.
- Develop, maintain, and update clinical policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Ensure regulatory compliance (federal, state, local), including Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) nursing home rules, surveys, and audits.
- Oversee staffing — hiring, scheduling, performance evaluation, coaching, and disciplinary action for nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs).
- Ensure appropriate staff licensing, continuing education, and competency.
- Monitor and manage quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives: infection control, medication management, resident satisfaction, safety, reducing adverse events.
- Coordinate with other departments (rehab, dietary, activities, social services) to ensure integrated care plans.
- Assure accurate documentation of resident assessments, care plans, nurses’ notes, treatment records, etc.
- Ensure that there is a licensed nurse assigned to each shift responsible for nursing services.
- Monitor supplies, equipment, and budget for nursing department; ensure resources are used effectively.
- Serve as a key point of contact with residents, families, physicians, and regulatory agencies.
Requirements
- Valid Florida RN license in good standing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility with at least 2 years in a supervisory/management role.
- Strong knowledge of Florida nursing home laws, rules, staffing mandates, and federal requirements (e.g. CMS, Medicare/Medicaid).
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams, handle regulatory surveys, and implement change effectively.
