About the role

The Director of Nursing is a member of MedStar Health entity-based Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team and is responsible for the adult inpatient psychiatric unit, child and adolescent psychiatric unit and psychiatric ED unit of organized nursing and patient care services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of the adult inpatient psychiatric unit, child and adolescent psychiatric unit and psychiatric ED unit.
  • Manage and lead a team of nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address patient needs.
  • Participate in change management initiatives and high reliability organization practices.
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts to enhance safety and quality of care.
  • Provide oversight for the Psych Crisis Stabilization Unit, including staffing and operational management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a nationally accredited program required; master's degree in nursing or health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred.
  • Four years of registered nurse (RN) experience required; two years of management and leadership experience preferred, particularly in an inpatient psychiatric environment; at least two years of psychiatric RN experience strongly preferred.
  • Active Maryland RN license or active compact state RN license and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).
  • Patient Mental Health Certification (PMH-BC) strongly preferred.

Qualifications
