Full-time

Start date: as soon as possible

About the role

The Director of Nursing (DON), Extended Care, will provide strategic and operational nursing leadership for a well-established long-term care community, overseeing clinical operations, resident care delivery, regulatory compliance, and nursing team performance.

The DON will lead and support a team of nursing professionals, including oversight of approximately 35+ direct reports, by fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth. This leader will establish clear expectations, empower team members, and create an environment where staff feel supported while maintaining consistent standards of performance and care.

This leader will champion initiatives that enhance resident outcomes, quality measures, and operational excellence through data-driven decision-making, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The DON will oversee key performance indicators, including quality dashboards, benchmarking initiatives, compliance reporting, and processes that support strong clinical outcomes and resident satisfaction.

This leader will oversee daily nursing operations, staffing priorities, attendance management, and resource allocation while remaining highly visible and hands-on within the community. The ideal candidate will be able to balance competing priorities, understand when to step in operationally, and ensure the most important clinical and resident care needs are addressed effectively.

Partner closely with facility leadership, physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and system resources to strengthen communication, improve care coordination, and support a collaborative approach to resident care. Success in this role requires a leader who can build strong relationships while navigating a larger healthcare system and leveraging resources across departments.
