Director of Nursing
About the role
The Director of Nursing position at Canton Public Health is an open examination. To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent resident card. They must hold an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio and have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited program with at least seven years of experience in public health nursing or community health.
Responsibilities
- Analytical/Assessment - Assist in implementing community health assessments and community health improvement plans; analyze data to identify trends, health problems, and social and economic conditions affecting public health.
- Policy Development and Program Planning - Plan, implement, and administer Public Health Nursing Programs; develop and revise policies and procedures; coordinate grant development and administration.
- Communication and Cultural Competency - Treat others with courtesy and respect; utilize appropriate methods for interacting effectively with diverse populations; adhere to ethical principles and Canton City Public Health policies.
- Community Dimensions of Practice - Work collaboratively with the Medical Director and other organizations to enhance service delivery and implement joint services; provide technical guidance and education to boards, committees, and community groups.
- Public Health Sciences - Develop nursing service protocols; ensure compliance with relevant guidelines, standards, and regulations; provide clinical oversight to ensure nursing practice aligns with professional standards.
- Financial Planning and Management - Monitor and oversee budget activity; manage daily budgeting activities; negotiate contract terms with outside vendors/partners; coordinate with administration to secure Board of Health approval of contracts/grants.
- Leadership Supervision & Workforce Management - Supervise Public Health Nursing division; evaluate work performance; formulate performance improvement plans; assist supervisors in resolving problems and answering questions from staff.
- Professional Leadership & Development - Demonstrate advanced leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; pursue education and participate in professional committees and work groups; assume responsibility for own professional growth and development.
- HIPAA / Privacy Officer Responsibilities - Serve as the Department’s HIPAA Privacy Officer, including oversight of privacy policies, staff training, incident response, and breach mitigation activities in accordance with applicable law.
Requirements
Must hold an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited program and seven years of experience in public health nursing or community health are required. Three years of supervisory or management experience, preferably within a public health, healthcare, or community-based setting, is also required. Experience in grant development, implementation, reporting, and compliance oversight is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.

Pay
$75,647 starting salary with potential for additional compensation based on experience and qualifications.
