Director of Nursing
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and clinical oversight of the nursing department. This role ensures the highest quality of resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational excellence throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all nursing operations, staffing, and clinical programs
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Promote resident safety, dignity, and quality of care
Recruit, hire, mentor, and retain top nursing talent
Provide clinical leadership, education, and ongoing staff development
Partner with physicians, pharmacies, families, and interdisciplinary teams
Coordinate MDS processes and care planning initiatives
Manage departmental budgeting, reporting, and performance metrics
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA), Utilization Review, and care conferences
Lead preparation and response efforts for state surveys and audits
Address employee performance concerns, coaching, and disciplinary actions
Provide hands-on clinical support and resident care as needed
Qualifications
Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) experience required
Prior Director of Nursing experience preferred
BSN preferred from an accredited nursing program
Minimum 7 years of nursing leadership/management experience preferred
Strong knowledge of state and federal SNF regulations
Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills
Ability to thrive under pressure while maintaining a positive and supportive culture
