Position Overview
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services within the facility. The DON ensures compliance with federal and state regulations while maintaining the highest standards of clinical care, resident satisfaction, and employee engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all nursing department operations
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain nursing staff
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations
- Monitor quality measures, infection prevention, and clinical outcomes
- Lead survey preparation and regulatory readiness efforts
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and labor management
- Collaborate with physicians, therapy, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams
- Conduct clinical audits and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and resident-centered care
- Manage budgets, departmental performance, and operational goals
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Previous Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Unit Manager, or nursing leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and survey process
- Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Experience with staffing, budgeting, and clinical operations
- Passion for developing people and delivering exceptional resident care
