Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and success of the Nursing Department. This role oversees clinical operations, regulatory compliance, staff development, quality improvement initiatives, and resident care outcomes. The DON works closely with the Administrator and interdisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of clinical excellence while fostering a positive, resident-centered culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for all nursing services and staff
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing nursing team members
- Ensure quality resident care is delivered in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and workforce development initiatives
- Collaborate with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary departments to ensure exceptional resident outcomes
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement efforts
- Manage survey readiness and regulatory compliance activities
- Direct state reporting processes and oversee development and implementation of plans of correction
- Monitor clinical systems, policies, and procedures to drive positive outcomes and operational success
Qualifications
- Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Minimum 2 years of nursing leadership experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing setting
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and survey processes
- Experience with state reporting, regulatory compliance, and plans of correction
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with residents, families, staff, and community partners
