Director of Nursing

About the role

The Director of Nursing (DON) exercises administrative and functional supervision over nursing personnel as directed by the Administrator. This role plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Nursing department to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of nursing staff and foster a team atmosphere within the nursing division
• Teach and lead by example on all shifts
• Liaise with residents, families, support departments, and others to adequately plan for resident needs
• Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department
• Handle state reporting and develop and implement plans of correction
• Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
• Display integrity and professionalism in all things

Qualifications

• Currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
• Must maintain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing throughout employment
• Supervisory experience in a long-term care setting, preferably as a DON
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledgeable of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a long-term care facility
• Ability to work with the elderly population
