About the role

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a Director of Nursing 1 for an eleven-unit division serving 209 patients. This role provides both strategic oversight and hands-on clinical leadership, supporting nursing supervisors and their teams to deliver exceptional patient care.

  • Evaluate staff performance and develop policies based on current nursing research
  • Maintain contacts with individuals impacting program activities
  • Oversee programming for facility personnel to improve knowledge and practices of infection control
  • Protect human and civil rights of patients and staff
  • Coordinate and provide twenty-four hour nursing coverage
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of staff
  • May provide direct patient care and speak on behalf of nursing/clinical services
  • May oversee other disciplines such as pharmacy, respiratory therapy, or social work
  • May participate in strategic planning

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of nursing principles and practices in appropriate specialty
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices
  • Ability to develop strategic plans
  • Behavioral health nursing

  • Principles and practices of infection control
  • Current developments in field of nursing

  • Two (2) years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in a health care organization and/or facility or hospital nursing
  • Experience supervising nursing operations in a hospital setting
  • Experience with nursing scheduling management
  • Experience working in a psychiatric hospital setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Qualifications

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Must meet minimum qualifications by the job closing date

Pay

$131,219 - $178,920/year (New State employees start at minimum)

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
