Director of New Markets – Government & Utilities Location: US NationwideReporting to: CEOCompensation: $150K–$190K base + 25% to 45% Performance bonus + stock options (0.35%–0.45%) + benefits Paren, the Leading Data Platform for the EV IndustryIn just a few years, Paren has emerged as the leading data intelligence layer for real-time electric vehicle charging insights. We standardize reliability, availability, pricing, and amenities across charging networks, enriching millions of sessions each week to give EV ecosystem players the data they need to improve transparency, expand infrastructure, and accelerate adoption.Over the past 12 months, our revenue has grown more than 300% year-over-year, driven by strong product-market fit across our initial verticals. Early traction with both government entities and utilities has surfaced two adjacent, high-potential segments — and we're looking for a dedicated hire to build and own both from the ground up, starting as a single combined mandate. The company is backed by leading venture capital funds, including Base10, as well as a group of exceptional business angels, and is a Certified B Corporation. Recently, the company also turned cash flow positive, giving us greater visibility into our promising future. This is a unique opportunity for a builder with relevant industry expertise to shape how Paren enters two complementary markets. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll start by owning go-to-market for both government and utilities as one combined mandate — with the opportunity to specialize, grow a team, or split the segments as each matures. This is not an execution-only sales role, and it's not a strategy role either — you'll be judged on the outcome you personally drive: real customers, real revenue, and a repeatable business. We expect you to get there through hands-on discovery, validation, and closing — not a set of recommendations for someone else to execute. Build and own Government & UtilitiesYou will design, lead, and own Paren's go-to-market strategy across government and utilities. Your entrepreneurial mindset will take you from mapping the opportunity in each segment — key buyers, procurement dynamics, competitive landscape — to shaping our product roadmap based on what these buyers actually need. You'll own an ambitious combined revenue target across both segments, backed by dedicated company resources including marketing support. You're expected to actively pursue both segments from day one: from finding the first customers, to defining what we sell and how, to closing and expanding accounts. As traction builds, there's a path to hiring dedicated resources for each segment and stepping into a leadership role over that team. This is a cross-functional role. As the business matures, we expect it to evolve toward full P&L ownership. Make an ImpactDetermine which government and utility use cases are worth pursuingGet hands-on: run outreach, pilots, and early sales cycles to prove out each segment before building process around itClose and expand paying customers across both segments, building toward a repeatable, meaningful revenue baseDefine the offer: data, pricing, and positioningPartner with product and data teams to turn validated customer needs into a repeatable, sellable productOwn and report on revenue, pipeline, and segment traction directly to the CEOBuild the case for, and eventually lead a dedicated team per segment once you've proven the model works Bring Your Experience to Accelerate Growth7+ years in business development, early-stage sales, product, or general management roles, with a track record of personally taking a new market or offering from zero to meaningful revenue.Real, credible experience in at least one of government or utilities — gained by working inside these organizations, selling into them, or building programs for them — enough to engage credibly with senior industry stakeholders from day one. We're not expecting equal depth in both segments.Comfortable being judged on revenue booked, not on recommendations made or a pipeline someone else buildsExperience operating in early-stage environments, where you moved fluidly between strategy, customer conversations, pipeline generation, selling, and executionEntrepreneurial and resourceful; able to operate independently while reporting directly to the CEOStrong communicator who can translate market and customer signal into clear product input What You’ll Get in ReturnCompetitive base salary: $150K – $190KPerformance bonus: 25% to 45% of base salaryStock options: 0.35%–0.45%Medical and dental coverage: Up to 100% covered for you, 75% coverage for dependents401(k) plan3 weeks of paid time off1 company-wide soft close (1 week) during the winter holidaysAnnual company retreatAmazing office space in the heart of San FranciscoFinancial incentives to electrify your commute (EV or e-bike) Full benefits details: https://www.paren.app/careers We are an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
