Director of Membership and Engagement, Alpha - $400,000/year USD
About the role
Alpha School students, on average, experience 2.4 to 2.6 times the academic growth of traditional school students. Families choose Alpha because of word‑of‑mouth referrals, not ads. In this role you will own that engine for an entire region — designing and hosting gatherings, recruiting parent ambassadors, building relationships with city officials and business leaders, and delivering the Alpha Networks (introductions, masterclasses, internships, alumni welcomes, etc.). You will create the systems while running them, and your work will be replicated in other cities. No degree or specific pedigree is required; what matters is a proven track record of convening people and turning those relationships into value. The position is on‑site in Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, or New York City, with regular evening and weekend commitments.
Responsibilities
- Design and run the region’s gathering calendar: open events, curated dinners by city and grade, family retreats — several a month and on budget
- Secure venues, hosts, and vendors; host the events live
- Recruit current parents as ambassadors, equip them with authentic stories, and match them to prospective families and tours
- Open and maintain relationships with public officials and business executives, turning them into venues, sources of support for new campus openings, and real opportunities for students
- Match enrolled families into parent circles and students into mentorships, masterclasses, and real‑world internships; welcome graduating families as alumni within 30 days
- Log every gathering, introduction, and first‑contact attribution in the CRM so “doors opened per family” is a measurable metric
- Make people‑first referrals the majority source of your region’s enrollment growth
Requirements
- 5+ years building communities or relationship programs in K‑12 education, membership, or a comparable network business where growth came through people (referrals, members, congregations, chapters, alumni, or a client book), with demonstrable results
- Personally designed and run 20+ gatherings across the full spectrum — from intimate curated dinners to 100+ person open events — with budget ownership
- Opened and maintained relationships with public officials or business executives that produced concrete, nameable value
- Disciplined CRM or relationship‑tracking user; logging relationships, first‑contact attribution, follow‑ups, and actions is already a habit
- Live in, or be willing to relocate to, one of the regions (Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, or New York City) where you already have a deep local relationship network
- Available to host on weekday evenings and weekends as a regular rhythm, with local travel
- Authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship
Qualifications
- Experience running regional growth, community, or partnerships for a network‑shaped organization (school group, membership club, franchise, faith or civic institution)
- Built and monetized a high‑trust book of relationships as a client‑facing principal in wealth management, consulting, or business development
- Background in admissions, advancement, community organizing, or hospitality, consistently being the person asked to host and represent the institution
- Existing relationships with local government or the business community in your city
- Fluent in how families make high‑stakes education decisions
Benefits
- Full‑time W2 employee position
- Immediate access to benefits
- Year‑long role
Pay
$400,000 USD per year, paid weekly.
Schedule
Evenings and weekends required, with regular local travel; on‑site in one of the regions (Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, or New York City).
