About the role

Columbia Journalism School seeks a strategic and innovative Director of Marketing and Communications to expand the School’s reach, engage new audiences, and strengthen the visibility of its academic and professional programs. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director will lead the development and execution of an integrated marketing strategy for the School, with a primary focus on enrollment marketing, working closely with Admissions and Financial Aid to increase awareness among prospective students, generate qualified prospects, and grow the pipeline for academic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing strategy to expand reach, strengthen market position, and identify and engage new audiences for degree programs, professional and executive education offerings, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Focus on enrollment marketing: collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid to increase awareness among prospective students, generate qualified prospects, and grow the pipeline.
  • Identify and reach audiences not already considering graduate journalism education and translate the School’s distinctive strengths into compelling campaigns that drive interest and enrollment.
  • Provide marketing strategy and support for professional and executive education programs, alumni and development initiatives, and other emerging programs.
  • Work across departments to understand goals, identify audiences, and develop effective approaches to reach them.
  • Supervise the Senior Digital Communications Specialist and help integrate marketing strategy with the School’s digital communications, content, social media, website, and storytelling efforts.
  • Set and execute strategy while contributing directly to campaigns, content, digital platforms, and other marketing and communications work as needed within a small collaborative team.
  • Establish goals and metrics for marketing initiatives, assess performance and return on investment, and use data and experimentation to continuously improve the School’s approach.

Qualifications

  • Strategic and innovative mindset with expertise in audience development, market research, positioning, campaign strategy, and lead generation.
  • Ability to identify and reach audiences who may not already be considering graduate journalism education and translate the School’s distinctive strengths into compelling campaigns.
  • Experience supervising marketing or communications staff and integrating marketing strategy with digital communications, content, social media, website, and storytelling.
  • Comfortable setting and executing strategy while contributing directly to campaigns, content, digital platforms, and other marketing communications work as needed.
  • Skilled at establishing goals and metrics, assessing performance and ROI, and using data and experimentation to drive continuous improvement.
