Department Website: http://www.statefundca.com Job Description And Duties State Fund is seeking a forward-thinking, results-driven Program Manager I to execute operational leadership of our Large Accounts segment—one of our most multifaceted and strategically significant underwriting programs, defined as standard premium of $500,00 and above. The program plays a pivotal role in delivering creative, data-informed strategies and exceptional customer servicing for our most complex accounts. Reporting to the Vice President of Middle Market and Large Accounts, this position is intended for an individual with comprehensive underwriting skills and a proven track record in broker portfolios or customer relationship management. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping segment strategy, enhancing underwriting performance, and supporting profitable growth. This position can only be filled in the following State Fund locations: Fresno, Pasadena, Pleasanton, Sacramento, or Vacaville. What You’ll Do Oversee day-to-day operational activities to ensure compliance and consistency with underwriting guidelines, documentation standards including underwriting quality, and pricing methodologies Analyze portfolio performance, identify trends and recommend actions to influence retention and growth Collaborate with cross-functional teams and segments – including Marketing, Claims, Safety & Health, Premium Audit and Policy Servicing to execute tailored services to our customers Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to implement policies, procedures, and system enhancements Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities and innovations in underwriting or portfolio management Support employee development through coaching, performance feedback, and succession planning. Assist with fiscal planning and monitoring program expenditur es Who We’re Looking For Proficient knowledge and experience in workers’ compensation underwriting (experience in managing Large Accounts or complex accounts preferred) Portfolio management experience with the ability to interpret trends, anticipate risks, and identify growth opportunities Strategic mindset with the ability to navigate complex challenges and contribute to forward-looking recommendations Strong communication, relationship-building, and collaborative leadership across teams. Special Requirements Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits.
