About the Role
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources at Kulanu. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position oversees talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, workforce planning, and employee engagement. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and management team, supervises HR staff, and helps build the people, culture, and systems necessary to support Kulanu's continued growth and success. This position offers the opportunity to help shape the future growth of Kulanu and, over time, evolve into a broader organizational leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Organizational Development
- Partner with the Executive Director on workforce planning and organizational development.
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support Kulanu's mission and goals.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Provide guidance and support to managers on workforce and personnel matters.
- Supervise and develop HR team members, providing coaching, guidance, performance management, and professional development opportunities.
- Establish departmental goals and ensure the HR team delivers high-quality, responsive service to employees and managers.
- Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding efforts.
- Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop high-quality employees.
- Support employee development and succession planning initiatives.
- Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Advise managers on employee relations, performance issues, and disciplinary matters.
- Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate action.
- Oversee performance evaluation processes and employee development initiatives.
- Compensation, Benefits & Compliance
- Oversee compensation and benefits programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Manage leave administration, policies, and HR risk management.
- Partner with outside legal counsel and consultants as needed.
- HR Operations
- Oversee HR systems, records, reporting, and workforce metrics.
- Analyze data and trends to support organizational decision-making.
- Ensure efficient and effective delivery of HR services throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive human resources experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of New York employment law and HR best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, special education, or OPWDD environments.
- Experience supporting organizational growth and change initiatives.
Pay
Base Pay: $120,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
