Position Summary
HousingPlus is hiring a Director of Human Resources to join our growing company. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for designing and implementing HR policies, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.

- Strategic Leadership: Align HR strategy with the organization mission and long-term goals, make firm decisions, and think critically.
- People & Culture Development: Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and mission-driven workplace culture, lead DEIB initiatives, develop staff engagement strategies, and improve organizational climate.
- Talent Management: Lead recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and retention strategies, design leadership development and training programs, and manage performance management frameworks.
- Employee Relations: Resolve conflicts and mediate sensitive cases, coach managers, and handle HR cases with discretion and timeliness. Possess emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Know federal, state, and local employment laws, develop compliant HR policies, handbooks, and procedures, and manage risk mitigation, workplace investigations, and HR audits.
- Operational Excellence: Think strategically about optimizing HR processes, systems, and databases, work with HRIS platforms, payroll systems, and benefits administration, and manage organizational and project tasks.
- Financial & Analytical Skills: Build and manage HR budgets, align with the finance department, understand compensation design, salary benchmarking, and total rewards, analyze HR metrics, workforce data, and report trends to leadership.
- Communication & Relationship Building: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, engage stakeholders, board members, staff, and external partners, and lead change management and organization-wide initiatives.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Chief of Operations on implementing the organization's human resources strategic plan.
- Onboarding and offboarding of new hires, developing and maintaining best practices of orientation, background checks, records, and exit meetings.
- Responsible for the data integrity of the HRIS for new hires, employee information, and employment status changes.
- Partnering with and coaching business leaders to ensure timely support and advice in key areas such as people development, career progression, reward, and recognition. Counsels and coaches supervisors on the appropriate handling of disciplinary matters, including documentation, and refers to legal counsel when necessary.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, disputes, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in HR and employment laws, and apply this to internal policies and processes.
- Perform data analysis to inform decision-making, employee retention, recruitment, and employee relations.
- Administers and oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Manages time and attendance, including payroll.
- Implement initiatives that foster an inclusive culture across the organization.
- Provide oversight to HR Generalist/Recruitment on efficiencies and best practices that meet organizational goals.
- Develop policies and procedures that guide the Human Resource Department, and maintain its sustainability.
Requirements
- Experience in a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
- Experience managing HR for multi-site or remote teams.
- Familiarity with grant compliance or HR requirements for federally funded programs.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field, Master’s degree in HR preferred. 7–10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership roles.
- HR certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Experience managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
