Director of Grants (Volunteer)
Mentor A Promise is a New York City-based nonprofit committed to supporting children and youth aged 5–18 experiencing housing instability. We provide consistent, high-quality programming in mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression, fostering a safe and empowering environment for young people to grow.
About the role
The Volunteer Director of Grants plays a crucial role in securing funding for MAP's programs. This position oversees the entire grant lifecycle, from identifying opportunities to submitting proposals and reporting outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement MAP’s grants strategy
- Research and identify grant opportunities
- Lead the writing, editing, and submission of grant proposals
- Collaborate with program staff to gather data and stories for applications
- Manage a grants calendar to track deadlines and reporting requirements
- Ensure compliance with grant guidelines and contracts
- Build and maintain relationships with funders and partners
- Mentor and guide volunteer grant writers
Qualifications
- Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills
- Ability to translate program outcomes into persuasive narratives
- Knowledge of nonprofit funding sources and grant application processes
- Organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Collaborative leadership style with excellent communication skills
- Passion for MAP’s mission and commitment to equity and youth empowerment
Commitment
This is a volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week, with a minimum 6-month commitment. The position is remote with flexible scheduling.
