Description

The Director of Graduate Nursing and Doctoral Nursing Education is a full-time faculty member in the Division of Nursing and Health Professions (DNHP) who is responsible for teaching and administrative work. The Director of Graduate Nursing Education is accountable to the Dean for the DNHP.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the mission and goals of the University and the Division.
  • Plan and conduct regularly scheduled MS level nursing and DNP nursing faculty meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Education DNHP to advise the Dean relative to program status, future directions, learning outcomes, competencies and projected needs and resources, including budget.
  • Using student enrollment and program data points, provides input to the Dean relative to anticipated needs for new faculty in collaboration with lead faculty.
  • Makes sure student enrollment numbers at the course and program level, to be able to project semester faculty needs and number of course offerings.
  • Works closely with the administrative assistants, to ensure a copy of the semester course syllabi, end-of-course reports, alternative final exam, and bookstore adoption list is obtained and reported in a timely manner.
  • Interviews and recommends new candidates for faculty positions in the MS programs.
  • Ensures the graduate and doctoral program curriculums, course outcomes, and program outcome data are evaluated and revised by corresponding faculty members on a regular basis as scheduled.
  • Provides input to the Dean regarding proposed faculty teaching assignments, course offerings, and schedules.
  • Provides leadership to MS & DNP faculty relative to professional development; competencies, modifications, and initiatives, and advises Dean relative to faculty morale, performance, and advancement.
  • Prepares and renew program outcome data such as student surveys, clinical facility evaluations, and employer feedback with faculty.
  • Provides input to the Dean regarding evaluation of full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty evaluation process.
  • Works closely with Clinical Placement Coordinators and faculty in planning clinical/practicum assignments and selecting clinical/practicum placements.
  • Aids in marketing and recruitment activities pertaining to the MS & DNP programs with University Admissions staff and MS faculty and staff.
  • Responds to inquiries about the MS nursing program. Together with the faculty, provides formal interviews to prospective graduate students if required.
  • Attends monthly program information sessions with admissions staff.
  • Maintains oversight of the academic process of MS & DNP students and advises non-matriculated students.
  • Attends to all documentation from state Boards of Nursing, accrediting agencies, and credentialing inquiries, relative to graduates of the program.
  • Reviews applications for transfer credit, and determines courses to be transferred, providing written notification of such courses to the students and to the graduate admissions office.
  • Performs a gap analysis for all accepted post-master’s certificate programs.
  • Participates with Dean, the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Education, and the Director of Health Science, Applied Exercise Science in the DNHP in preparing the Division Annual Report and ACEN annual report.
  • Mentors faculty in professional role and scholarship.
  • Participates in discussions regarding budget, disciplinary actions, grievance, and evaluation.
  • Works with the FNP, AGACNP, and PMHNP track coordinators to: 1) ensure competency in NP faculty, 2) evaluate the NP track curriculum for consistency with current certification board test blueprints 3) NP specialty track readiness exam student results are used to fill voids in curriculum on an annual basis 4) review graduate performance on certification exam (AANP, ANCC).
  • Participates in the development of grant proposals, leading to supplemental funding for the students of the Division of Nursing & Health Professions.
  • Oversees the Standardize Patient Program including recruitment and payroll management.
  • Conducts regular program level mappings to ensure course level outcomes are congruent with program outcomes and certification exam blueprints.
  • Prepares bi-annual report for DNHP Advisory Committee, reflective of MSN & DNP program outcomes.
  • Provides academic guidance to incoming students relative to professional goals.
  • Maintains an on-campus presence Monday through Friday with occasional weekends required for MSN and DNP students.

Qualifications

  • The MSN and Doctoral Nursing Program Director will be a full-time member of the faculty, hold an MS degree with a major in nursing, hold an earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline, or be actively working on a doctoral degree.
