Director of Google Ads
Position Overview
The Google Ads Department Head leads Leads Near Me's paid search operations across a portfolio of auto repair shop clients in the U.S. and Canada. This role owns campaign strategy, team performance, and the technical infrastructure that makes everything trackable and accountable — including conversion tracking across Google Ads and CallRail, Google Tag Manager implementation, and the internal training systems that keep the team sharp. This is not a hands-off leadership role. You'll be deep in the platforms, setting the standard, and building the processes others follow. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Duluth, GA.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership
Own the Google Ads department's performance outcomes across the full client portfolio
Manage, mentor, and develop the LSA Manager and any Google Ads specialists on the team
Build and maintain SOPs for campaign setup, optimization, reporting, and QA
Collaborate with sales on new client onboarding and set realistic performance expectations
Campaign Strategy & Oversight
Set campaign strategy across client accounts — search, LSA, and any emerging Google ad formats
Conduct regular account audits and ensure campaigns are structured for maximum performance
Own budget allocation recommendations and monthly performance reviews with internal stakeholders
Stay ahead of Google Ads platform changes and translate them into actionable updates for the team
Conversion Tracking & Tag Management (Core Requirement)
Build, audit, and maintain conversion tracking across Google Ads and CallRail for the full client portfolio
Set up and manage Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers — including tags, triggers, and variables — for accurate call and form conversion tracking
Ensure CallRail number pools, call flows, and Google Ads integrations are correctly configured and firing
Troubleshoot tracking discrepancies, broken tags, and attribution issues across accounts
Establish a QA process so every new account launches with verified, tested tracking from day one
Train the team on conversion tracking fundamentals, GTM best practices, and CallRail configuration so they can identify and flag issues independently
Training & Documentation
Develop and deliver internal training on Google Ads, conversion tracking, GTM, and CallRail
Build a training library — SOPs, video walkthroughs, and QA checklists — that new hires can onboard from
Run ongoing team education sessions as platforms evolve
Performance Expectations
Success in this role is measured by:
- Zero undetected conversion tracking failures across the client portfolio
- All new accounts launching with verified, tested conversion tracking on day one
- Team is trained and capable of handling first-level tracking issues independently
- SOPs exist/up-to-date for every core department workflow within the first 90 days
- Department retention and team performance scores trending upward
Qualifications
3–5 years of hands-on Google Ads management experience, preferably in an agency setting
Expert-level knowledge of Google Tag Manager — containers, tags, triggers, variables, previewing, and debugging
Deep experience with CallRail — number pools, tracking sources, Google Ads integration, and call attribution
Proven ability to build and audit conversion tracking setups from scratch and diagnose attribution issues
Strong enough technical knowledge to train others, write documentation, and QA their work
Experience managing a team or mentoring junior media buyers
Google Ads Search Certification required; Google Analytics and/or Tag Manager certifications a strong plus
Experience in auto repair, home services, or local lead generation is a strong plus
Comfortable presenting performance data and tracking setups to internal leadership
