About the role
The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, seeks a Director of Gift & Estate Planning. This full-time position is based at 1130 Hampton Ave, St. Louis, Missouri 63139.
Responsibilities
- Solicit and secure deferred gifts from prospects and donors for Salvation Army services within Salvation Army policies, applying knowledge of legal and tax consequences of charitable giving and explaining various gift plans.
- Work with the planned giving director to establish annual goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement cultivation and ongoing stewardship of prospective and current donors, utilizing moves management.
- Identify and qualify donor/prospects and build planned giving committees, working with corps officers, key volunteers, council members, community professionals, etc.
- Prepare deferred giving proposals for prospects, attorneys, donors.
- Utilize marketing plans using direct mail, newsletters, targeted mailings, following directives provided by The Salvation Army Headquarters.
- Perform public speaking opportunities to both professional communities and the general public, such as basic estate and wills seminars.
- Affirm that all electronic data regarding donor/prospect files and gift production information is processed accurately and coordinated with the Midland Planned Giving Department.
- Collaborate with major gifts officers in cultivating and stewarding shared donor assignments.
- Participate actively in development department meetings and activities as needed.
- Enhance professional development through personal study and attending educational opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe from Harm guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of proven experience in development/related fields, with comprehensive knowledge in planned giving.
- Comprehensive knowledge in planned giving, with combination of training and experience considered.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge and skill in computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and perform well with minimal supervision.
- Sound judgment, ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel, sometimes consecutively.
- Valid drivers' license and passing TSA MVR check.
Qualifications
- Capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment, including using a computer, answering phones, etc.
- Physical and working conditions require capability to perform duties in an office setting and occasionally on the road.
