About the role

The Director of Fleet and Equipment is responsible for managing and leading all fleet, equipment, tooling and maintenance activities for all Projects. This role will provide strategic leadership for the Fleet and Equipment function, partnering across Construction, Procurement, Project Management, and other business functions to support operational excellence and organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to leverage the experience to optimize the contracting of equipment, fleet, and tooling vendors.
  • Manage and lead the Fleet and Equipment team in support of the construction of projects including, but not limited to the following:
    • Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development for the Fleet and Equipment team to foster a high-performing and engaged organization.
    • Develop and execute the Fleet and Equipment strategy to support construction operations, improve operational efficiency, and align with long-term business objectives.
    • Establish and maintain the equipment/tooling/fleet management plan to meet the project schedule(s).
    • Negotiate and execute agreements with competitive vendors and partners.
    • Establish and maintain process and procedures related to Tooling, Equipment and Fleet procurement and management
    • Negotiate commercial terms in accordance with Company policies and guidelines.
    • Develop and negotiate strategic agreements with equipment/tooling/fleet vendors as needed.
    • Review, compare, and evaluate vendor proposals and historical pricing to determine reasonable pricing and opportunities for cost savings.
    • Track cost savings against the budget for each equipment/tooling/fleet plan.
    • Ensure project costs are properly categorized when submitting vendor commitments for approvals by comparing and adjusting estimating costs vs. actual costs.
    • Partner with Construction, Procurement, Project Management, Safety, and other internal stakeholders to ensure fleet and equipment strategies align with operational priorities and project requirements.
    • Maintain market intelligence to monitor equipment and tooling costs.
    • Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet utilization, equipment performance, vendor performance, and operational effectiveness to support informed business decisions.
    • Monitor vendor compliance with agreements and ensure project requirements are being met.
    • Support Project Management Team as needed with agreement/vendor information and input to resolve issues, such as under-performance.
    • Maintain accurate and complete Purchasing records in accordance with record retention procedures; and
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance fleet utilization, operational efficiency, and standardized fleet and equipment management processes across the organization.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects, as assigned by Management.
  • Monitor ongoing utilization and ensure that owned and rented equipment is being appropriately utilized onsite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 7 - 12 years of experience in Fleet & Equipment and/or relevant SCM experience.
  • 4 - 7 years of experience purchasing and managing fleet, equipment and tooling in the Solar industry with utility scale of PV/PV plus Storage Project estimating experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge in contracting, purchasing, master agreement creation/negotiation/management, fleet management, rebate programs, and tooling management.
  • Ability to work on your own in a fast paced, professional, team environment with minimal supervision. Strong negotiation skills preferably with suppliers and vendor agreements.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confidence and the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization including external clients.
  • Computer literacy with an advance knowledge on Microsoft Office including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems and construction management tools SAP experience preferred.
  • Procore experience preferred.
  • Customer service skills including experience in conducting vendor reviews and evaluation, and maintaining good business relationships.
  • Able to identify, investigate, and solve problems that might arise with order and in a timely manner.
