About the role

Ready to take ownership of the financial reporting function and make an impact beyond the numbers? The Health Plan is looking for an experienced finance leader to join our team as Director, Financial Reporting & Analysis.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished accounting and financial reporting professional who understands the complexities of the health insurance industry and enjoys being at the center of an organization’s financial operations. You’ll lead critical financial reporting processes, oversee regulatory and statutory reporting, strengthen financial controls, develop your team, and provide meaningful financial insight to senior leadership. We’re looking for someone who brings technical accounting expertise and the ability to see the bigger picture—someone who can dig into the details when necessary, identify opportunities for improvement, and help ensure our financial processes are accurate, efficient, and positioned to support the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close and reporting processes.
  • Oversee financial reporting prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of statutory filings and reporting requirements for the NAIC and state insurance regulators.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls surrounding the financial close and reporting processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and other key accounting activities.
  • Analyze financial information, identify risk, and recommend opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness.
  • Serve as a key finance contact for regulators, internal auditors, and external auditors.
  • Oversee the annual financial statement audit and support income tax filing activities.
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual budget.
  • Research statutory accounting matters and provide guidance when complex accounting questions arise.
  • Provide financial analysis and ad-hoc reporting to senior management to support business decisions.
  • Lead, develop, and support a team of finance professionals.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Previous experience within the health insurance industry preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience leading and developing employees.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and critical reporting deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to move comfortably between detailed accounting work and broader financial analysis.

The Kind of Leader Who Will Thrive Here

We think the right person for this position will be someone who takes ownership.

You don't simply make sure a report gets completed—you want to understand the story behind the numbers. You notice when something doesn't look right, ask questions, and follow it through. You look for opportunities to make processes stronger rather than accepting, “That's how we've always done it.”

You're equally comfortable working through a complex accounting issue, preparing for an audit, coaching a member of your team, or discussing financial information with senior leadership.

And while technical expertise matters tremendously in this role, so does leadership. We're looking for someone who can build trust, communicate clearly, develop others, and create a finance function that people throughout the organization can rely on.

Why This Role Matters

Financial reporting is more than meeting deadlines and producing statements. It provides the financial foundation leaders depend on to make good decisions.

In this role, you'll have visibility across the organization and the opportunity to influence how financial information is collected, analyzed, controlled, and communicated. Your work will help ensure our reporting remains accurate and compliant while also helping us continue to improve how Finance supports the business.
