Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and trust accounting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and applicable legal accounting standards
- Supervise the firm's billing function, including prebills, client invoices, collections and aged receivables
- Analyze billing and collection trends and recommend improvements
- Maintain and enforce billing policies and procedures
- Supervise and mentor a team of approximately 4 accounting and billing staff
- Delegate tasks, monitor performance, and provide ongoing training and development
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team environment
- Manage firm vendors and assist with facilities finances
- Serve as liaison with outsourced IT providers and software vendors to coordinate support, upgrades, cybersecurity initiatives, and system implementations
- Support technology planning and operational improvements to enhance efficiency and business continuity
- Evaluate and improve accounting and billing processes for efficiency and accuracy
- Manage accounting, practice management, and IT systems (e.g., timekeeping, billing software)
- Coordinate with external IT consultants and software vendors regarding system performance, maintenance, and upgrades
- Aid in evaluating new technologies and operation systems to improve firm efficiency and security
- Aid in system implementations, upgrades, and integrations as needed
- Cook up coordination with external auditors, accountants, and tax advisors
- Prepare schedules and documentation for audits and tax filings
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA required)
- 5–8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role
- Working knowledge of IT systems, software vendor management, and technology operations preferred.
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of legal billing practices and trust accounting (IOLTA)
- Proficiency in accounting and billing software (e.g., Elite, ProLaw, Clio, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills
