Director of Finance

About the role

The Director of Finance will serve as the Mojave Water Agency’s senior financial executive and a trusted strategic advisor to the General Manager. The role involves providing executive leadership over the Agency’s financial operations, fiscal strategy, and long-term financial sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Lead budget development, audits, financial planning, and complex financial reporting
• Provide strategic advice to the General Manager and the Board of Directors on key organizational initiatives
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to financial management
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, regulators, and other agencies
• Oversee the Agency’s financial systems and processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency
• Manage the Agency’s financial resources to support its mission and strategic goals

Requirements

• Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within the water utility industry
• Experience with the California State Water Project, state contract water agencies, or similar organizations is highly desirable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities

Qualifications

• Proven ability to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the Agency’s mission and objectives
• Experience with financial modeling and forecasting
• Knowledge of financial management software and tools
• Experience with state and federal regulatory requirements
