The Director of Finance & Operations at Palmer Scholars is a rare opportunity for a strategic, systems-minded leader to shape the future of the organization. This role sits at the heart of the organization—driving operational excellence, strengthening financial stewardship, and empowering program teams to deliver life-changing outcomes for Scholars.
Responsibilities
- Drives operational excellence and strengthens financial stewardship
- Translates organizational priorities into actionable plans, clear workflows, and measurable outcomes
- Ensures operational systems, program infrastructure, and data practices support high-quality program delivery and responsible stewardship of funding
- Serves as a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic oversight and day-to-day leadership across organizational operations, program support, financial processes, compliance, and data systems
- Oversees billing and contract processes, compliance tracking, reporting systems, and performance management
- Guides continuous improvement efforts across departments
- Supervises operational and program leadership staff, fosters cross-team collaboration, and promotes a culture of accountability, learning, and shared problem-solving
- Leverages data and strategic analysis to drive informed decision-making, strengthen financial and operational performance, and support organizational growth
Requirements
- Proven track record in finance and operations leadership
- Experience in nonprofit management and a deep understanding of financial regulations and compliance
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively
- Experience in leading and developing a team, fostering a collaborative environment, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Master's degree preferred
- Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization
- CPA certification preferred
