Director of Finance And Operations
Role Description
The Director of Finance and Operations is a full-time, on-site role based in Steamboat Springs, CO, responsible for overseeing the district’s financial health and operational efficiency. This position leads budgeting and financial planning processes, prepares and reviews financial statements, and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting that aligns with state and local requirements. The director manages day-to-day business operations, including purchasing, contracts, and resource allocation, while partnering with district leadership to support strategic initiatives and capital projects. The role also oversees internal controls, compliance, and fiscal risk management, and provides clear financial analysis and recommendations to the Superintendent, Board of Education, and school leaders. In addition, the Director of Finance and Operations supervises assigned staff, fosters a culture of accountability and service, and collaborates across departments to optimize operational systems and support high-quality educational programs.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Finance and Financial Planning, including developing and managing complex budgets for a multi-site organization.
- Proficiency in preparing and interpreting Financial Statements and Financial Reporting for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Strong Analytical Skills with the ability to synthesize financial data, identify trends, and provide clear, data-informed recommendations.
- Experience with public sector or education finance, including familiarity with governmental accounting standards and school district funding models.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPA, CGFM) preferred.
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to build effective teams and collaborate across academic and operational departments.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to equitable, student-centered decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial audiences.
