The Director of Fabrication – Electrical leads and shapes the future of a growing Electrical Fabrication Division at RK Industries. This role involves building and executing long-term fabrication strategies, championing lean manufacturing initiatives, and expanding prefabrication capabilities that directly influence project performance.

About the Role

This highly visible leadership role partners with executive, operational, and field teams to improve safety, quality, productivity, and profitability while developing the next generation of fabrication talent.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the long-term vision for the Electrical Fabrication Division.

  • Establish fabrication goals aligned with company growth and operational objectives.

  • Identify opportunities to expand prefabrication capabilities and increase value to projects.

  • Champion Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Develop annual operating plans, capital improvement plans, and departmental budgets.

  • Direct all day-to-day fabrication shop operations.

  • Oversee production planning, scheduling, workflow, and labor allocation.

  • Ensure fabrication schedules support project milestones and field installation requirements.

  • Monitor production metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.

  • Balance shop capacity with current and future workload forecasts.

  • Collaborate with field operations to improve constructability and fabrication opportunities.

  • Develop and manage fabrication operating budgets.

  • Monitor labor productivity, utilization, and manufacturing costs.

  • Analyze production performance using key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through process improvements and automation.

  • Manage capital equipment purchases and maintenance planning.

  • Promote a culture where safety is the highest priority.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, company safety policies, and fabrication standards.

  • Develop and enforce quality control procedures throughout fabrication operations.

  • Lead investigations into safety incidents and quality concerns while implementing corrective actions.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient fabrication facility.

  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain fabrication leadership and production staff.

  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and create employee development plans.

  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Support apprenticeship and workforce development initiatives.

  • Partner with Estimating to identify prefabrication opportunities during preconstruction.

  • Collaborate with VDC/BIM teams to optimize fabrication-ready models.

  • Work closely with Procurement to ensure timely material availability.

  • Cookordination logistics and delivery schedules with field operations.

  • Support Business Development by showcasing fabrication capabilities to customers.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and implement new fabrication technologies and equipment.

  • Standardize fabrication processes across projects.

  • Develop fabrication standards, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Support strategic initiatives related to automation and digital manufacturing.

  • Participate in executive planning meetings and operational reviews.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical construction experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in electrical prefabrication, manufacturing, or operations management.

  • Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems.

  • Experience managing fabrication facilities and production personnel.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies.

  • Strong financial and operational management experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/project management software.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician license.

  • Experience with BIM/VDC workflows and fabrication modeling.

  • Experience implementing automated manufacturing processes.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations.

  • Experience leading large-scale prefabrication operations supporting multiple construction projects.

  • Strong executive leadership and organizational skills.

  • Excellent strategic planning and operational execution abilities.

  • Advanced understanding of electrical construction means and methods.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production planning.

  • Strong budgeting and financial analysis skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to lead organizational change and continuous improvement.

  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
