Director of Evangelization

About the role

The Director of Evangelization serves as a senior lay ecclesial minister overseeing the ministries of evangelization and faith formation. The position is envisioned as a senior lay ecclesial ministry overseeing the ministries of evangelization and faith formation. The DE cooperates with and reports to the administrator or pastor in the overall care of the Parish.

Responsibilities

• Supervise major areas in Parish ministry: Communications, adult evangelization and discipleship, youth evangelization and discipleship, and faith formation programs for children, families, and adults.
• Oversee other lay ecclesial ministers and their support staff.
• Foster a spirit of evangelization in the Parish at large, and recruit persons with appropriate gifts and vocations to co-responsible labor in communications and faith formation.
• Facilitate long-term development addressing key lacunae in evangelization, such as engagement with parents whose children have recently received a sacrament of initiation, and engagement with couples subsequent to marriage, i.e., parental and post-marital mystagogy.
• Implement best practices in leadership, press for healthy developments in Parish culture, collaborate with diocesan and regional organizations, community organizations, volunteers, parents, and emerging leaders to arrange for programming of pastoral value in all major responsibility areas.
• Maintain relevant professional affiliations.
• Share in the other duties common to the pastoral staff of the Parish, such as visible participation in Sunday Masses, attendance at staff meetings, cooperation in crafting and complying with a budget, and adjusting responsibilities to developing pastoral priorities.
• Facilitate compliance with the Safe Environment program especially among subordinate staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

• At least a master's degree or the equivalent education in either divinity or organizational development.
• Formal training in leadership skills and a practicum in pastoral theology, Parish life, or similar clinical pastoral education.
• Three years of pastoral experience with demonstrated leadership skills, administrative ability, and facility in interpersonal relationships.
• Demonstrated fidelity to the faith and tradition of the universal Church and willingness to adhere to the faith, tradition, and discipline of the universal Church, the local diocesan Church, and the Parish.
• Active support for the Safe Environment Policy of the diocese.
