Director of Engineering, Money Platform
About the role
The Director of Engineering for Money Platform will lead the development and operation of critical systems that ensure the safe and timely movement of customer funds. This role requires a strong technical background, experience in leading engineering teams, and a deep understanding of financial systems.
Responsibilities
- Treat the teams who build on the platform as your customers. Give them clear contracts and a developer experience clean enough that they integrate once on their own
- Ship platform capabilities on a steady rhythm that product teams can feel, and make that rhythm something the team is known for
- Hold the operational, reliability, and correctness bar for systems that move customers' hard-earned money
- Be the technical leader your strongest engineers want to work for. Earn credibility with principal, staff, and senior engineers; go deep when it counts; and grow the managers and principals who will lead this platform next
Requirements
- 8+ years of technical leadership experience, including 5+ leading multiple teams
- Experience building and operating platforms or large distributed systems that other teams choose. Experience with payments or financial systems is a big plus
- The technical depth to engage principal and staff engineers as a peer, and to step in when a hard problem needs you
- Comfort holding a clear technical opinion in a room of executives, and moving between business strategy and technical bets in both directions
- A point of view on what an agentic world means for a platform like this, and how you would build for it. Not a slogan about using AI more

Pay
The starting base salary range for this position is typically $240,000 – $300,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan. Schedule
Corporate team members are expected to come in at least 50% of the time monthly, typically three days a week. This creates a consistent, meaningful overlap that supports team norms and business needs. Managers also have the flexibility to set higher expectations based on their team's specific needs.
