About the role

This is a remote role from anywhere in the US or Canada. NEOGOV is a leading AI-enabled SaaS provider serving the public sector and public safety organizations nationwide. For more than 25 years, we’ve helped agencies streamline critical workforce and operational processes through an integrated, intelligent platform. From hiring and onboarding to employee growth, retention, compliance, and public safety operations, our solutions support the full employee lifecycle. Guided by our mission to serve the people who serve the people, we combine innovation, customer focus, and purpose-driven technology to help build stronger communities.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the platform engineering roadmap — shared services, integration frameworks, and data models that power the entire 22-product suite.
  • Build and operate shared platform microservices that every product team inherits: notification engine, workflow orchestration, document management, webhook infrastructure, and integration marketplace.
  • Manage the Reporting team to deliver high-performance analytics solutions using Snowflake, Looker, and .NET/SQL.
  • Manage the Connect team to deliver internal and external integrations with strong documentation and partner relationships.
  • Establish and enforce API governance: OpenAPI registry, versioning lifecycle, and design standards enforced in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Architect to enforce architecture standards and drive adoption of shared services across all product teams.
  • Implement clear standards for development, testing, and security while championing automation and DevOps best practices.
  • Use measurable metrics to track and improve engineering velocity, system reliability, and quality — and act on them.
  • Drive continuous reduction of technical debt without sacrificing innovation velocity.
  • Build, mentor, and scale AI-first engineering teams across distributed environments, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Operations to ensure technology investments directly support customer outcomes and business goals.
  • Lead the transition to cloud-native, scalable, and modular systems — including container-native CI/CD, GitOps workflows, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CDK).
  • Define and execute the Internal Developer Platform strategy — paved roads, golden paths, and self-service infrastructure that reduce per-team engineering toil and accelerate delivery across all product teams.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including + years in Director positions.
  • Proven experience leading teams in a Microsoft centered ecosystem (.NET, C#, SQL Server).
  • Proficiency in Looker (or similar BI tools) and integration platforms like Workato.
  • Expertise in Cloud infrastructure - AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience leading modernization and transformation initiatives within engineering organizations.
  • A strong understanding of AI, automation, and data-driven engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing teams across distributed environments.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
