About the Role
Manage the mixed-use Hotel/Resort's Engineering Department, including hiring and maintaining an effective workforce for an upscale property. Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, guestrooms, and public areas. Oversee capital improvement projects, department budgets, and monthly forecasts. Ensure all facilities, equipment, furniture, fixtures, systems, and landscaping meet the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and direct all department personnel.
- Provide efficient use of manpower to maintain workload.
- Conduct timely performance appraisals.
- Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance and operation of the physical structure, mechanical systems, and other systems affecting facility operations.
- Visually inspect work quality and direct staff and contractors according to performance standards.
- Conduct walk-throughs to assess the safe and efficient maintenance of physical structures, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, vehicles, and related equipment.
- Manage inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and materials for the department.
- Enforce Hotel/Resort and Company policies and procedures.
- Problem-solve guest and team member challenges effectively.
- Respond to emergency situations, including fire alarms and life-safety incidents.
- Maintain files per department guidelines and schedule monthly department meetings.
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Ensure proper certification of all employee mechanics and technicians.
- Solicit and administer sub-contract work, analyze bids, and verify quantities.
- Negotiate, prepare, and administer agreements and contracts with consultants and contractors.
- Liaison with governmental agencies for procurement and compliance with permits, inspections, and other requirements.
- Produce annual operating budgets for payroll, expenses, utilities, and capital improvements.
- Operate all areas within budgeted guidelines and provide budget analysis each period.
- Establish and maintain an efficient inventory and purchasing system.
- Maintain the Hotel/Resort facility and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Align with Property Global Standards and model company guidelines.
- Maintain a professional image and act as a resource for all departments.
- Maintain accurate records for all areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Resort Manager.
- Maintain property key schedules and records.
- Direct ADA compliance efforts for the property.
- Comply with hotel and departmental rules, regulations, and policies for safe and environmentally friendly operations (e.g., lost and found, emergency procedures, recycling).
- Attend and participate in hotel/departmental meetings, training sessions, and other information meetings.
- Comply with hotel grooming and service standards, ensuring proper phone etiquette and courteous behavior.
Requirements
- Significant portions of the day require prolonged standing, moving, lifting, or transporting materials up to 50 lbs (e.g., equipment, tools, boxes).
- Ability to visually review documents and computer screens throughout the day.
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods during shifts.
- Manual skills requiring motor coordination and finger dexterity (e.g., typing, handwriting, machine operations).
- Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, may require working varying schedules to reflect business needs.
- Responsible for operating within hotel safety guidelines, including safe handling of chemicals and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Regular attendance in conformance with hotel standards is essential.
