About the role
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead facilities operations and engineering at the Westin Austin Downtown. In this senior hotel engineering leadership role, you will oversee preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, energy management, life-safety systems, and a high-performing engineering team at one of Austin's premier luxury hotel properties. The ideal candidate is an experienced hotel Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, or Facilities Manager with strong project management skills, technical expertise, and a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement long-term engineering strategies aligned with White Lodging and property objectives
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a high-performing engineering team
- Ensure technical excellence, safety compliance, and quality standards across all engineering functions
- Oversee planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects on time and within budget
- Manage department budgets, labor, equipment, and resources effectively
- Direct preventive maintenance programs to protect the asset and enhance reliability
- Collaborate with Housekeeping, Front Desk, F&B, Sales, and other departments to ensure operational alignment
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and brand standards
- Provide hands-on leadership, troubleshooting, and technical guidance when needed
- Drive continuous improvement in energy management, sustainability, and life-safety systems
Requirements
- Engineering leadership experience in hospitality preferred
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage engineering teams
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with union labor contracts preferred, when applicable
- Required licenses or certifications such as HVACR, EPA, Certified Pool Operator, or similar
- Strong financial acumen and budget management capabilities
