Director of Engineering

About the Role

As the Director of Engineering, you will develop an environment that creates excitement for internal and external guests. This working department head position manages the Engineering department to ensure effective, safe, and overall maintenance of Nemacolin. You will exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, utilizing strong written and verbal communication skills while balancing multiple competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Coach, lead, and inspire the Engineering team by training and setting clear goals and objectives.
• Supervise maintenance operations for the facility, including but not limited to refrigeration, heating, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen and laundry equipment, emergency systems, electrical systems, painting, finish work, and drywall.
• Conduct inventory, purchasing, and maintain department attic stock levels for repair and maintenance work.
• Update and maintain engineering policies, procedures, work orders using HotSOS, projects, upgrades, and repairs while ensuring compliance with all Nemacolin Brand Standards.
• Monitor vendors to ensure quality, delivery, warranties, exchanges, and upgrades are consistently utilized.
• Maintain, oversee, and track results of preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, meeting rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and all equipment.
• Ensure 24/7 coverage, including on-call status, and act as Manager on Duty when scheduled or during emergencies.
• Obtain competitive bids for all supplies, work orders, and preventive maintenance programs on an annual basis or as needed.
• As the Life Safety Director, uphold and oversee safety, health, and sanitation policies and procedures at the property, including all safety measures.
• Deliver internal and external guest service the Nemacolin way, going above and beyond for associates and guests.
• Build and retain guest relations, acting as a mentor to other employees to provide superior guest service.
• Hire, train, motivate, evaluate, and manage staff to ensure employees receive adequate guidance and resources.
• Establish, implement, and monitor department objectives, standards, guidelines, budget, and administrative processes.
• Collect data and file reports to appropriate regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Inspect property utilities and equipment to correct problems and minimize potential violations during OSHA inspections.
• Provide expertise, direction, and resources for hazardous waste spills to ensure compliance with cleanup regulations.
• Participate in long-term planning of facilities expansion and modifications to meet engineering requirements.
• Coordinate projects by recommending outside contractors and acting as an in-house advisor on asbestos-related issues.

Requirements

• Prior experience as an Assistant Chief or Chief Engineer/Director of Engineering in a full-service hotel.
• Experience leading teams of 30+ associates.
• Bachelor’s Degree and trade-related license or experience in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and steam-related fields, with three to five years of general engineering supervisory experience, or eight years of equivalent combination of formal training, education, and experience.
• Professional sense of urgency in communication and interaction with guests, co-workers, and the public.
• Sharp attention to detail, ability to work efficiently and flexibly, and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of the management and operations of a world-class resort.
• Proficiency in HotSOS and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong budgetary, projections, and cost-control skills.
• Excellent communication skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, write reports, and present information effectively.
• Familiarity with local building codes, life safety systems, and federal laws.
• Ability to interface professionally with business contacts and customers.
• Strong interpersonal, sound judgment, and decision-making skills.

Pay

Up to $250,000 per year.
