About the Role

Join the Southwest Healthcare System Leadership Team as a Director of Emergency Services at Inland Valley Hospital. This role oversees the Emergency Department with 24-hour responsibility for total management, including administrative direction for nursing personnel and operational aspects of patient care. The Director ensures high standards in patient, employee, and physician satisfaction, drives Joint Commission initiatives, and fosters a proactive, team-oriented environment.

Employee may be required to float to the other facility within Southwest Healthcare (Rancho Springs Hospital in Murrieta, CA) based on operational needs, with appropriate orientation and competency validation provided.

About the Facilities

• Inland Valley Hospital (Wildomar, CA): A 122-bed, Joint Commission-accredited facility and Southwest Riverside County’s only designated Trauma Center and Paramedic Base Station. The hospital performs over 4,000 surgeries annually, with an average of 4,000 Emergency Department visits per month. Features include a Bariatric Weight-Loss Surgery Center of Excellence and the region’s only Total Joint Center.
• Rancho Springs Hospital (Murrieta, CA): A 120-bed acute-care hospital offering the region’s only Pediatric Emergency Services (for children 14 and under) staffed by board-certified Rady Children’s emergency medicine physicians. Provides the area’s only OB/Emergency Department program with 24/7 OB/GYN coverage. The Childbirth Center is the largest in the region, featuring private suites, and the NICU is operated by Rady Children’s.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Provide administrative direction for nursing personnel development, evaluation, and operational management of the unit in collaboration with support services.
• Ensure HCAPS, patient, employee, and physician satisfaction scores meet acceptable ranges.
• Lead teams to improve core measures and Joint Commission initiatives through proactive dialogue with staff (one-on-one and in monthly meetings).
• Identify staff needs and resolve issues to enhance patient care, aligning with nursing leadership direction.
• Ensure consistent adherence to new initiatives and practices without bias.
• Participate in Emergency Preparedness drills and fulfill role during emergencies or disasters.
• Facilitate departmental and hospital educational activities and in-services with the Education Department.
• Develop, review, and revise departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure the department has necessary equipment and supplies for quality service delivery.
• Report unsafe situations or hazards immediately; remove and label malfunctioning equipment from service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in Emergency Services.
• Minimum three (3) years of acute care nursing leadership experience in Emergency Services.

Qualifications

• Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR Certification through the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association.
• Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
