About the role

The Director of Elementary Education oversees professional development activities across all levels within the organization, focusing on the professional growth of teachers and administrators in grades kindergarten through grade five.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the Executive Director of Instruction and the administration to plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate district-wide instructional initiatives for grades K-5.
  • Facilitate the preparation of curriculum documents, including local school improvement plans and updates annually.
  • Assists schools in assessing their needs and developing their own staff development programs.
  • Supports schools in needs assessment and development of their professional development plans.
  • Supports individuals and groups in identifying external and internal resources for learning opportunities, including instructor-led training and self-study materials.
  • Maintains personal growth plans on all employees supervised or assigned and ensures all components are addressed.
  • Coordinates a comprehensive and system-wide Safety and Health Program and serves on the Healthy Active Children's Committee.
  • Approves homebound instruction for regular education.

Requirements

  • Licensing/Certification: Hold a South Carolina educator license in School Administration or an endorsement in Administration and Supervision K-6.
  • Education: Master's degree in Education, School Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Five (5) years elementary classroom experience, five years of experience in school, district, administration or equivalent experience required.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in implementing school-wide programs.
  • Training and experience in mentoring and coaching school administrators.

Skills

  • Knowledge of early childhood and elementary education.
  • Knowledge of new or impending legislation to ensure compliance with external regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Platform.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of the South Carolina Standards for Professional Development, National Staff Development Standards, and professional development requirements.
