About the role
The Director of Education at Merrimack Center will lead a dynamic team of teachers, providing an energetic and positive approach to help adolescents with trauma-informed care. The role involves overseeing the education department, including hiring, supervising, team-teaching, evaluation, and training.
Responsibilities
- Hire, supervise, and train teachers and staff members.
- Evaluate and plan educational units and curricula.
- Create and oversee systems to support teaching and learning.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical, nursing, residential, and administrative teams.
- Lead meetings, serve as a public school liaison, and perform other leadership roles.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Must have a Special Education Administrator certification or equivalent experience.
- At least 1 year of experience as a supervisor and administrator.
- At least 5 years of experience working in special education with young adults with emotional disabilities.
- Experience working in an alternative school setting or treatment program is preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Must be willing to learn and apply physical interventions and verbal de-escalation techniques.
