Director of Development, Planned Giving (Administrator II)

Job/Department Summary

The Director of Development, Planned Giving serves as the institution’s lead strategist and frontline fundraiser for planned and deferred gifts. This position is responsible for building, growing, and sustaining a comprehensive planned giving program that advances the University’s long-term philanthropic priorities. As a senior member of the Development team, the Director focuses on securing estate commitments and other deferred gifts, generating a minimum of $2 million annually in documented planned gift commitments. The role emphasizes donor education, legacy society stewardship, strategic marketing, and collaboration with development colleagues to integrate planned giving into overall fundraising strategy.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • AND A minimum of three years of experience in major gift and annual leadership gift fundraising for higher education or an equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Advanced degree or professional credential such as CFRE, CAP, or similar.
  • Experience building or significantly expanding a planned giving program.
  • Experience in higher education advancement or a complex nonprofit organization.
  • Familiarity with planned giving marketing platforms and third-party website vendors.
  • Experience managing legacy societies and structured stewardship programs.
  • Comfort collaborating with legal, financial, and tax professionals.

Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm

Anticipated Hiring Range

$110,000 - $120,000 per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

CSU, Chico's Annual Security Report includes summaries of institutional policy relating to campus safety, drug and alcohol use, sexual assault, and other matters. The report is published in compliance with the Clery Act and includes three years of certain crime statistics that occurred in Clery Act defined geography.
