About the role
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Development will provide leadership and direction for all fundraising activities at Mission to Live Foundation. The role is responsible for executing and growing the organization’s fundraising efforts, managing volunteers and staff, stewarding donor relationships, and ensuring grant submission deadlines and reporting requirements are met. The Director will work cross-functionally to identify opportunities for financial support of the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of comprehensive development strategies and revenue streams, including creating and executing strategic key performance indicators within all major giving initiatives
- Establish a base of diversified funding streams to attract and retain donors and fundraising volunteers
- Manage and strengthen donor acknowledgement processes and CRM management, including recordkeeping, gift acknowledgments, legacy gifts, and direct mail
- Identify, cultivate, and steward donors and prospects, developing engagement strategies to solicit and close gifts
- Manage and update CRM database using Salesforce
- Partner with the social media team to develop and implement a dynamic and strategic communications plan to elevate M2L’s brand identity, broadening awareness and increasing visibility
- Partner with finance team to ensure donor and financial records are maintained and in accordance with general accounting and fundraising standards
- Help to recruit, train, and motivate fundraising volunteers
- Local and out-of-town travel required at times (~25%–40%)
- Night and weekend availability required when needed
Qualifications
- Results: Proven track record of exceeding goals with a bottom-line orientation; ability to make good decisions through analysis, wisdom, and experience
- Relationship Building: Ability to effectively network and build relationships with individuals, local businesses, family foundations, and veteran-serving organizations
- Action/Deadline Oriented: Ability to meet strict deadlines and act on opportunities with little notice
- Team Player: Collaborates with teammates and prioritizes the needs of the organization
- Fundraising: 5+ years of experience in Fundraising/Nonprofit Development with managerial experience plus a minimum of 3–5 years managing high-level donor relationships, with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $25,000 and above
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfort with public speaking
- Education: Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred
- Leadership: Minimum 5 years of leadership and/or supervisory experience
- Capital Campaigns: Experience with capital campaign development, execution, and management
- Self-Directed: Initiative, strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other commonly used business technology tools; experience reporting on restricted and unrestricted philanthropic gifts; working knowledge of maintaining constituent records and donor management in CRM databases
- Mission Alignment: Genuine commitment to the mission, vision, and values of M2L
- Preferred: Experience with military-connected nonprofits
Physical Requirements
- Daily tasks include analyzing and interpreting data, communicating, and remaining in a stationary position for a significant portion of the workday
- Frequent access to, input into, and retrieval from computers and office productivity devices
- Ability to travel by air or automobile up to 40% of the time
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 25 pounds
