Director of Construction - Water/Wastewater
About the role
Oversee Municipal Water & Wastewater Construction operations at the group level to ensure profit, schedule, quality and safety expectations are met. Recruit, hire, assign, terminate and develop construction personnel, including Project Directors of Construction. Manage litigation, approve warranty expenditures, insurance waivers and check signings. Establish construction policy and procedures at the corporate level.
Responsibilities
- Aids Project Director in proposal preparation and new project development; coordinates design and pre-construction activities and serves as client liaison when needed.
- Participates in periodic design review meetings, leads construction kick-off meetings, and monitors document production to meet project schedules.
- Supports Project Manager with project schedule, detailed estimates, cost codes, buyout strategies, and purchase controls.
- Reviews construction drawings and specifications; makes recommendations for construction techniques, design details, self-perform work, field staffing, and dispute resolution.
- Ensures adequate subcontractor insurance coverage; works with Project Manager to issue subcontracts and purchase orders in compliance with company policy.
- Verifies cost report accuracy; investigates and directs corrective action for cost overruns; follows up on requisitions, receivables, and collections.
- Directs timely completion and close-out of projects; assigns resources for warranty responses on completed projects as needed.
- Trains and develops Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in Industrial Water/Wastewater facility construction, design, or management.
- Advanced knowledge of the construction industry and company operations.
- Extensive experience in the management of construction operations.
Skills
- Knowledge in the design and construction of Industrial Water/Wastewater facilities.
- Specific knowledge, skills, licenses, certifications (e.g., advanced knowledge of financial operations, estimating, and employee relations).

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
